Bhagat Singh was a revolutionary and patriot who helped ignite an Indian revolution on 26th October 1929, near Lahore. He was hanged to death for that assassination at the age of 23. It is considered as one of the most significant events in India's history, which led to the formation of Indian National Army (INA) and Civil disobedience campaign during British rule in India. Bhagat Singh was born on 7 September 1907 to Shaheed Sukhdev Singh and Jarnail Kaur in Lahore, Punjab, British India. His family was of Jat background. He had an elder sister named Santokh Devi. He had three children with his wife - two daughters Niharika and Manju and a son called Sukhdev Chand. Bhagat Singh was educated at home until he reached 8th Standard. Then he studied at Chaggera High School, where he completed his high school education. His participation in the Congress Rebellion led to his family's disinheritance. He studied at the National College in Lahore, where he completed his Intermediate. After that Bhagat Singh worked for a living and finished his graduation with a degree in Pathology from University of Punjab in Lahore. He was with All India Congress Committee and was involved with the Ghadr Movement and later joined Hindustan Republican Association and became a member of its executive committee. He also helped found Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. Arrested for participating in the Chauri Chaura incident he is known as the only man who was jailed, out of all those who had participated in that incident including his close friend Rajguru. He took part in the Non Cooperation Movement along with Gandhi. Bhagat Singh was a revolutionary who believed in a violent revolution to overthrow the British Raj and advocated the independence of India from British rule. Bhagat Singh was hanged on 23 March 1931 at Lahore jail.
